District Dance Festival is the 1st edition of a contemporary dance festival, conceived and organized by the Atacama Company, performed at the Roman districts of San Lorenzo and Ostiense, represented by two locations: La Scatola dell’Arte and Teatro Marconi.

The program is divided into workshop activities and presentation of performances and is deliberately placed in this dual track to encourage the dissemination and knowledge of contemporary dance through the active participation of spectators and to create a connection between artists residing in neighborhood venues and audiences.

The planned activities are aimed at a wide range of audiences including children, to whom the first weekend of programming is dedicated with a workshop and the show The Ugly Duckling, by the Atacama company. The other shows and workshops planned are united by the desire to explore the language of movement in its various facets, from practical experience to confrontation on different issues ranging from the acceptance of oneself and the other to the relationship/communication between two human beings, from the investigation of the feminine to gender violence, from the search for identity to the relationship between music space and movement. Not forgetting the artist-audience connection through moments of post-show encounters.

The project, promoted by Roma Capitale – Assessorato alla Cultura, is the winner of the Public Notice “Estate Romana 2022 – Riaccendiamo la Città, Insieme” curated by the Department of Cultural Activities and is realized in collaboration with SIAE.

Artistic direction by Patrizia Cavola and Ivan Truol.
